Dear Parents and Guardians of Students Entering Grades 4–9,

As we prepare for another great school year, we wanted to share information about your child's Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) results from last spring. These results provide valuable information about your child's academic progress and can help families and teachers work together to support continued growth throughout the coming school year.

The Seneca R-7 School District is committed to partnering with families to support every student's academic success. One way we measure student learning is through the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) Grade-Level Assessments.

The MAP Grade-Level Assessments measure how well students have mastered the Missouri Learning Standards, which outline the knowledge and skills students should develop at each grade level to be successful in future coursework, college, career training, and beyond. More information about the Missouri Learning Standards is available on the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) website athttps://dese.mo.gov.

The Missouri Assessment Program is designed to:

• Measure student progress toward the Missouri Learning Standards.

• Provide valuable information to teachers and families about student learning.

• Help schools evaluate the effectiveness of instructional programs.

• Support continuous improvement in teaching and learning across Missouri.

Students complete the following assessments:

• Grades 3–8: English Language Arts and Mathematics

• Grades 5 and 8: Science

The MAP assessments include a variety of question types that allow students to demonstrate their learning in different ways, including:

• Selected Response: Traditional multiple-choice questions.

• Constructed Response: Short-answer questions that require students to explain their thinking.

• Performance Tasks: Multi-step problems that ask students to apply their knowledge to real-world situations.

• Writing Tasks: Essays in narrative, informational/explanatory, or opinion/argumentative formats.

Each student receives an Individual Student Report (ISR) summarizing their performance. The report includes an overall achievement level:

• Below Basic

• Basic

• Proficient

• Advanced

The report also provides information about the knowledge and skills your child demonstrated during the assessment. Families who would like additional information about interpreting MAP scores can view DESE's Guide to Interpreting Results at https://dese.mo.gov.

Individual Student Reports will be shared with families during Parent-Teacher Conferences on Monday, October 26, 2026. If you would like a copy of your child's report before conferences, you may request one by contacting your child's school office beginning Monday, August 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., when school offices reopen for the new school year.
